In Lower Lake, evacuations are in place for Clayton Creek Road, Cantwell Ranch Road, Morgan Valley Road, Riata Road, Teklas Road Hale, Daly Hill, Teklas, Spruce Grove Road to Noble Ranch Road, Morgan Valley Road to mile maker 7.1, Stahle Road and Ellen Springs, the Lake County Sheriff’s Department said.

The Copsey Creek subdivision was also evacuated Sunday afternoon near Bonham Road and Quarter Horse Lane, according to Cal Fire. An evacuation center has been set up at the Highlands Senior Center in Clearlake.

For residents in the community near Lower Lake, where the Clayton Fire has consumed 2,000 acres since igniting Saturday evening, fleeing menacing fires has become an unwelcome routine. Recent wildfires include the Valley Fire of 2015, the third most destructive in state history, which burned about 15 miles south of the current blaze.

Four helicopters and three air tankers made repeated passes over the head of the fire as it made its way toward Morgan Valley in the dry brush and grassy oak woodland that is difficult for firefighters to access. Nearly 700 firefighters were in Lake County attacking the fire, said Lt. Doug Pittman, a Marin County sheriff’s spokesman who was working on behalf of Cal Fire.
